Day 1: Departure to glorious Greece and Halkidiki
Today you fly to Thessaloniki where you pick up a rental car on arrival, ready for adventure in Halkidiki, one of the most beautiful summer destinations in northern Greece. This unique Greek region consists of 3 peninsulas that stretch out into the Aegean Sea; Kassandra, Sithonia and Agion Oros – also called the Holy Mountain. Kassandra is the first of the three peninsulas you reach when driving from Thessaloniki to Halkidiki. The journey here takes only 30 minutes. This is perhaps the most touristy of the three peninsulas and offers a rich history, archeological sites, lovely sandy beaches, beautiful forests, hot springs and a great variety of hotels, water sports and nightlife. Sithonia is the “middle” peninsula and is much calmer compared to Kassandra. The area is similar to Kassandra but the biggest difference is found in nature, where the forests consist mainly of beautiful spruces. There are also vineyards and olive groves – but the peninsula is largely covered by spruce forest. Sithonia is known for its port city of Porto Karras. Here you will find luxury hotels, vineyards, spruce forest and a beautiful marina. Last but not least, Sithonia offers both beautiful, rugged coastal strips and white sandy beaches with crystal clear water. Agion Oros – The Holy Mountain Athos – is the easternmost of Halkidiki’s 3 peninsulas and is something completely unique. All the island’s inhabitants are monks and there are 20 monasteries where the monks live in isolation. Women are not allowed to visit the island but it is also not easy to visit the island as a man. If you want to visit, you must apply several months in advance. However, it is possible to get a glimpse of this unique peninsula if you take a boat trip. From the boat you can enjoy the view of the sacred mountain ”
Day 2: On your own at the eco-resort Bubble Tent
Bubble Tent is an eco-resort located on top of a hill surrounded by hundreds of olive trees and overlooking the Aegean Sea and the village of Nea Moudania in Halkidiki. The bubble tents are a unique and luxurious experience where you can sleep under a sparkling starry sky with the comfort of a 5-star luxury hotel. You have a private whirlpool tent with attached parking and small garden. The tents are located between Nea Moudania and Nea Potidea in Kassandra and only 250 meters from the water.
Day 3-6: Sithonia Peninsula
You then head to the Sithonia Peninsula where you stay five nights at the wonderful Ekies Resort. The hotel is located on the outskirts of the charming fishing village of Vourvourou. From the hotel you can easily reach the city’s main sights and Vourvourou Bay whose fine sandy beach with sun loungers and parasols is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Continental breakfast is included daily, the hotel’s restaurant serves local dishes and the bar offers a refreshing drink. It is also possible to arrange a number of activities on site, such as snorkelling excursions. Free parking is available at the hotel. Equipment is rented locally. – Boat trip “The Holy Mountain Athos” – from the port of Ormos Panagia, sail towards the southern part of the Athos Peninsula until you reach the point where the mountain rises 2033 meters. As you sail along the north coast, you get a nice view of the mysterious and fascinating monasteries that are the center of the lifestyle of the Orthodox monks. After about 4 hours of sailing, the boat stops at the village of Ouranoupolis where there is time to go exploring, take a walk, shop a bit or enjoy a local meal at a cozy tavern. – Visit a vineyard and taste local wines – one of the best experiences in Halkidiki is to visit the almost endless vineyards and taste the local wines.
